Silenced by Sociedad, Real Madrid lost focus because they were already thinking about Man City

After playing quite well in the first half, Real Madrid conceded to their former player, Takefusa Kubo early in the first half and Dani Carvajal's second yellow card made it difficult for them to get up.

“The first half we were competitive, we conceded and the red card complicated it,” said Carlo Ancelotti after the game quoted from Football-Espana, Wednesday (3/5/2023).

Ancelotti admitted that his players' focus was reduced in this match. The reason is that they have been waiting for two big moments, namely the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on May 7 and the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Manchester City three days later.

"It's not the best way to prepare for what's to come. Losing always hurts, because it brings down good feelings," Ancelotti explained.

"It wasn't the best. It's true the games against Osasuna and City were in the heads of the players."

Although disappointed, Ancelotti tried to take the positive side. According to him, Real Madrid learned from this defeat, especially not to concede goals easily.

“Now comes a very important moment for us. We must be ready. If we avoid the mistakes we have conceded recently, we will improve in the next two games."

This defeat made Real Madrid's chances of retaining the Spanish League title almost closed. They are now stuck in second place in the standings with a collection of 68 points from 33 matches, 14 points adrift of leaders Barcelona.
